MAPUSA: Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) a forum demanding regional languages as the medium of instruction (MoI)at its meeting in Mapusa on Saturday, strongly criticized the government and claimed that the people of Goa would teach the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a lesson and reduce it to a minority in the 2017 election if it didn't stop providing grants to English medium schools in the state.
Addressing the meeting at Hanuman Natyagraha in Mapusa, BBSM leader Subhash Velingkar said the manch would be preparing a film on the U-turns and lies of the BJP government on the MoI issue, which would be screened soon.
"Rulers of the BJP government are professional liars, I will not call them maha fatings (big liars), but will go beyond that and term them professional fatings," Velingkar said.
The BBSM, in its second-stage agitation, has launched the Matrubhasha Rakhsa Abhiyan where the manch aims to ready over two lakh people to actively lobby for their mother tongue before December this year.
In a well-planned strategy, BBSM intends to organize about 7,000 programmes across the state in its second-stage agitation where promoting the mother tongue will be carried out by displaying banners, door-to-door visits etc. The agitation is likely to culminate into a meeting with an oath to protect and promote the mother tongue across the state.
Swati Kerkar, a member of the manch, said the meetings conducted by them in the first-phase agitation were attended by 18,00020,000 people from across the state.
Uday Bhembre, Arvind Bhatikar and other BBSM leaders also addressed the meeting.
