Parrikar warns MGP, don't take BJP for granted

Panaji: Even as he sent out a warning message to alliance partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Part (MGP) that the Bharatiya Janata Party had the strength to contest all 40 seat in the 2017 assembly polls, defence minister Manohar Parrikar, on Saturday said the BJP will contest in all assembly constituencies along with MGP.

"Even while taking alliance talks to the logical conclusion, it should be taken into consideration that we have the capacity to contest in all 40 constituencies," he maintained reminding the gathering that they won 21 seats in 2012. "This time we have to win at least 26 seats," Parrikar added and expressed confidence of winning these independently. He also told party workers that to achieve this target they would have to forget internal differences.
Alliance talks will commence after October 4, Parrikar said, and announced that he will go on a yatra in the state to bring the BJP back to power.
"The BJP always respects its alliance partners," Parrikar said and added that despite having absolute majority in the 2012 polls they kept the promise they gave to their alliance partner and inducted them in the cabinet.
Addressing 700 BJP workers, including MLAs, MP and state executive members, at Panaji, Parrikar said he would make his contribution to the state by bringing BJP back to power in the 2017 poll all without compromising his defence portfolio as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told them to take care of their respective states, even if they are in Delhi.
"If we take a pledge to bring BJP back as majority government then I assure you that I will get more Goa more financial assistance from the Central government than it has ever received for the last 50 years," he said and added that he would always fight for the state.
Referring to the parivartan yatra he took during the 2012 assembly elections, Parrikar said that today marked the start of a similar yatra for the 2017 elections. "During the 2017 assembly elections I will travel from village to village just like I did for the last assembly elections," he said and added that the BJP has become the party of the people.
Parrikar told the gathering that this elections they have to win the Porvorim seat as people have shared their troubles with extortion, land grabbing and other illegal activities in the constituency. BJP, on the other hand, he maintained has delivered on its promise in this tenure and will deliver four to five times more in the next tenure. Once again he exhorted party workers to forget internal differences, because their winning depended on it.
Appealing to BJP workers to not trust pre-poll surveys, Parrikar said the BJP will come back to power on the strength of the workers' connect with the people.
He also urged BJP workers to remind the people of the state and government employees that if the BJP had not to come to power when mining came to a halt in the state then government employees would have not got salaries and continue development work in the state.
