Congress charge sheets BJP govt on 25 counts

Admits having learnt from past mistakes and galvanised to regain faith of the people; of eight MLAs, only two attend charge sheet launch

PANJIM: Ahead of the 2017 State Assembly elections, the Congress on Monday released a strongly-worded charge sheet against the BJP government in Goa charging it for the MoI mess, iron ore mining closure, failure to finalise the Regional Plan and shift off-shore casinos out of River Mandovi and creating unemployment.

Interestingly, the charge sheet, exposing the lack of governance, was launched in the absence of Congress MLAs, as  eight MLAs, only two – Leader of the Opposition Pratapsingh Rane and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat – were present. Those who shared the dais with State unit President Luizinho Faleiro were senior party leaders including those who lost the 2012 Assembly elections.
Faleiro preferred not to say anything on the absence of the MLAs. “I think you (media) need to pose these questions to the respective MLAs and not me,” he said.
Releasing the charge sheet, the Congress claimed that they have learnt from past mistakes indirectly referring to their 2012 defeat. “Having learnt from our past mistakes, the Congress Party is now galvanised right from the booth level to meet the expectations of the people so as to regain their faith,” Faleiro said in the charge sheet.
The former Chief Minister said, “It did not pain us so much when we lost 2012 elections, as the amount of pain we are going through watching the current state of affairs”. He added, “Those four and half years of BJP government have been nothing but a betrayal of trust, faith of the people of Goa, who voted them to power with clear majority.”
The charge sheet has nailed the Laxmikant Parsekar government on over 25 different counts. Prepared following a series of meetings by Congress leaders, it says the BJP government in Goa has been ridden with ‘scams and U-turns’.
“The BJP-led State government’s tenure is writ largely by their ideology of vendetta, vengeance, intolerance and hatred. While embarking on this deplorable and regressive ideology, BJP has only ensured the complete collapse of the State economy through execution of their skewed model of governance,” Congress said.
“The lacklustre performance of the BJP government has not augured well for the State and its people and the remedy lies in ensuring that the Congress party is voted back to power so that Goa can once again march towards progress, prosperity and development,” Rane said.
Earlier, Kamat defended his government’s decision on RP21 and MoI, stating that “the decisions are now being carried forward by BJP with minor corrections”. “BJP had painted Congress black on these two issues. On many occasions, I felt humiliated the way I had to face the protest… but today I say that our decisions were the best and in the interest of the people of Goa,” he added.
