PANAJI: Members of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) are protesting the decision to recruit new staffers at the public works department (PWD), and on Tuesday they submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, the chief engineer — PWD and the state chief secretary.
"The state government is going ahead with the process of recruiting new candidates despite the high court order. This is a violation. Workers who have given 20 years of their life to the PWD are being denied their rights," said Suhas Naik, secretary, AITUC.
He said that the hearing of the writ petition is in two weeks' time, and once the court passes a judgement, the workers will plan their next move.
"The struggle on the legal front, as well as on the streets will continue," said AITUC secretary.
The PWD workers have been at loggerheads with the government since a while about the issue of regularizing contract workers.
