Sudin confirms alliance with BJP

PANJIM: PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar on Wednesday confirmed that Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) will continue its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2017 Assembly elections.

“Right now we are in an alliance with the BJP and everyone knows that the BJP-NDA government at the Centre has given the State a lot of funds. Keeping that in mind, an alliance with BJP is advisable,” Dhavalikar, who is also the MGP leader, said.
Speaking on seat-sharing, Dhavalikar said MGP is firm and will contest the Bicholim and Dabolim seats. “We have asked for 14 seats and negotiations are still on. MGP will not give up the Dabolim and Bicholim constituencies at any cost. I don't care who is holding the seat right now, that seat belongs to us and we will contest that seat, come what may. I have worked really hard for those two seats,” he added.
“Various mega projects have been given to the State. Rs 5000 crore worth sewerage projects have been allotted to sewerage corporation, Almost Rs 500 crore worth of projects have been given under JICA and around Rs 800 crore worth projects pertaining to municipality are in the pipeline, if we want to complete all the projects, it will not be possible without assistance from the central government and therefore in the interest of Goa, I feel that alliance is the best option,” he added.
Commenting on the speculation that Congress MLA Pandurang Madkaikar may join either MGP or BJP, Dhavalikar said, “I can’t speak anything about him, as I am not sure. It is up to Madkaikar to decide which party he belongs to.”
