SP to inquire into PI Rane, Constable Naik case

PANJIM: Goa Police are yet to appoint an officer to inquire into the case of sexual abuse of commercial sex workers by Police Inspector Nilesh Rane and Constable Vinod Naik, and receiving taking protection money from pimps.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunil Garg said an officer of the rank of Superintendent will be appointed to inquire into the allegation against the two policemen.
“We have initiated an inquiry against Police Inspector Nilesh Rane and Constable Vinod Naik for their alleged involvement in the prostitution racket. By Monday evening we will appoint an officer of the rank of SP,” Garg told Herald.
Rane and Naik were named by two West-Bengal based girls after they were rescued from a prostitution racket being run in the coastal belt. The girls had said that both policemen had sexually abused them and extorted money in the coastal belt.
Rane was serving as Police inspector of Calangute last year before he was shifted to Sanguem Police Station. Both policemen are currently posted at Goa Reserve Police pending the inquiry.
Herald was the first to report on the girls’ statement recorded by the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
