Panaji: Crime branch of Goa police will soon start investigating the complaint about seven murder convicts celebrating a birthday at old central jail in Aguada on Saturday.
"Reliable sources informed me that seven convicts were celebrating the birthday party of one of the convicts at Aguada jail," said crime branch SP Karthik Kashyap.
Based on the information, crime branch immediately informed Calangute police and officials from both locations reached the spot. But since the revellers received prior information about the police raid, they managed to get away. Police said they suspect the convicts had come from Colvale central jail.
Jail authoritities said the outsiders had been brought to Aguada to cut the bamboo grown in the jail. "We will investigate the incident and necessary action would be taken," Kashyap said.
But, IG (prisons) Elvis Gomes deniedthat the event took place. "Convicts were given some work to be executed at Aguada jail and with proper escort and noting they were taken out from the jail," he added.
