14 arrested in prostitution cum road robbery case

Ponda: Pursuing investigation in the Bhoma road robbery case, which later turned out to be a prostitution racket involving a minor girl, Ponda police booked fourteen people including two women on Tuesday evening. The arrested have allegedly been operating an interstate racket from Maharashtra and Goa for a long time.

The police have also rearrested the four accused involved in the road robbery case, which occurred on August 10 and sought five days' police custody of the accused on Wednesday in order to nab the others.
On August 10, a police patrol had intercepted a taxi at Dharbandora, which was robbed by its passengers, after they assaulted the driver and threw him out. A 15-year-old girl was also rescued and sent to remand home.
During the interrogation, it was revealed that the minor girl was forced into prostitution and was being taken to Kolhapur. The girl was brought from Mumbai to Kolhapur and then to Panaji and was confined in hotel rooms for the purpose of prostitution. She was then exploited sexually by two men at a Panaji hotel and by two others at Kolhapur before that, Ponda police said.
