PANAJI: Aam Admi Party (AAP) condemned the felicitation of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of drawing political mileage out of the bravery of the armed forces.
Addressing the media in the city on Tuesday, AAP senior leader Dr Oscar Rebello said that the AAP fails to understand the necessity and reason for felicitation of the Defence Minister.
He said, “Instead of felicitating the Minister, why not felicitate the Army.”
Stating that the AAP condemns the BJP’s efforts of taking advantage of the valour of the armed forces, Rebello said, “During the 1999 Kargil war, even after winning the Kargil war, Atal Bihar Vajpayee never went on chest thumping and took political credit for the Army’s success.”
Meanwhile, Rebello informed that the AAP was not invited for the all-party meeting called on Monday to discuss the issue of Mhadei water diversion.
Responding to a question, he said that the party will not take up the matter with the Chief Minister and will not go begging for the invitation.
He, however, said that “AAP is for 100 per cent protection of Goa’s interest and safeguarding the interest of Goa’s agricultural land and not Karnataka’s industrial needs.”
